In 2005, Joey Bates returned to Seattle after finishing his studies at a small art school in the midwest. His works deals with how our body and facial expressions function as language during conversation. In an age when people are losing themselves in ever- evolving technology, Bates’ works focus on making a quick connection with the audience through facial expression thus reasserting its importance. The work in this show includes number of new works on paper including portraits in pen and ink and a series of hand studies in grapite.
